Energy Efficiency Strategies in Household Appliances: A Local Analysis of Electricity Consumption

Abstract

The study addressed the high energy consumption of refrigerators in the Forastero sector, Belisario Quevedo parish, identifying determining factors such as location, overloading, condition of door seals and frequency of opening. This analysis provided insight into how these practices affected energy efficiency and users' perceptions of appliance use. The research showed that many users extended the lifetime of refrigerators as a cost-saving measure, but this resulted in higher energy and maintenance costs. In addition, a widespread lack of knowledge about external factors that influence efficiency, such as ambient temperature and proper maintenance, was identified. The study highlighted the importance of implementing practical measures, such as locating refrigerators in cool and ventilated places, performing regular maintenance, avoiding overloading and replacing older appliances with more efficient models.It also highlighted the need to educate users about the advantages of these practices to reduce energy consumption and associated costs. The findings provided valuable information for designing energy efficiency strategies adapted to the local context. In conclusion, the study showed that fostering a culture of sustainability and upgrading technologies is essential to minimise environmental impact, optimise resources and improve the quality of life of communities in the Forastero sector, offering a concrete solution to a critical problem.
