The magazine La Antorcha Pentecostal: disseminating socio-religious and ethical principles (1940-1959)

There are many religious denominations present on the spiritual scene in Cuba, most of which were introduced at the end of the 19th century and throughout the following century. Pentecostalism is one of these religious tendencies and has been the subject of multiple investigations from the Social Sciences; however, there are still aspects to be considered. The objective of the present work is to analyze the socio-religious and ethical principles disseminated by the magazine La Antorcha Pentecostal between 1940 and 1959. The magazine in question is the Official Press Organ of the Pentecostal Churches “Assemblies of God in Cuba”, and its study will allow for an understanding of the essence of the religious and moral thinking promoted by Pentecostalism in this country. For the development of this work, the Cuban context at the arrival of the first missionaries and the importance that this magazine had for the dissemination of Pentecostal doctrines as a regulator of behavior, values and life expectations were taken into account.
