Feasibility of the model for the development of informational skills in the use of Galen Clinics in Health Information Systems tutors

Abstract

Introduction: in the context of the accelerated computerisation of the health sector, the development of information skills in Health Information Systems (HIS) tutors is crucial to optimise the use of tools such as Galen Clínicas. This study evaluates the viability of a model designed to strengthen these skills in tutors in Havana, Cuba. Objective: to evaluate the viability of the model for developing informational skills in the use of Galen Clínicas among tutors on the Health Information Systems degree course in Havana, Cuba. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 2023, applying a validated survey to 35 specialists with experience in HIS. Twelve components of the model were evaluated using a Likert scale, analysing their adequacy in terms of foundations, stages and ways of improvement. Results: 85.7% of the specialists considered the fundamentals and purpose of the model to be ‘very adequate’. The stages of motivation, planning, execution and evaluation were also positively valued, with more than 71% approval. The forms of improvement, such as conferences and workshops, received an 85.7% rating of ‘very adequate’. The specialists suggested integrating emerging technologies and strengthening the holistic approach. Conclusions: the proposed model is viable and suitable for developing information skills in HIS tutors. Its implementation will allow for better adaptation to technological advances, promoting informed decision-making and continuing education in the field of health.
