Characteristics of inflammatory markers in patients with acute heart failure

Abstract

Introduction: The available scientific evidence3-4 allows us to state that the development and progression of heart failure are underlain by immunological and inflammatory mechanisms that are associated with oxidative stress. Objective: To determine the characteristics of hematological markers of inflammation in hospitalized patients with HF on admission. Material and methods: A descriptive-cross-sectional study of 100 patients who were admitted to the Cardiology ward with a diagnosis of HF from 2018 to 2020 was carried out. For data collection, the survey that was filled out during the review of medical records was used. clinics once the patient is discharged. For the processing, a database was created with the SPSS system. The principles of the Declaration of Helsinki were respected. Results: It was shown that the greatest left atrial dilation is significantly correlated with the elevation of the elevated neutrophils / lymphocytes (NRL) (80%), while only 20% of these patients present the NLR up to 2.9. There is a significant association between the RNL up to 2.9 and the state at discharge alive, represented by 63%, as well as the elevated platelet/lymphocyte ratio (≥ 116) with the deceased discharge (100%), while the live discharged with this same condition were only 22.8%. Conclusions: The hematological markers of inflammation and oxidative stress, Neutrophils/lymphocytes and platelets/lymphocytes ratio, are characterized by their significant association with mortality in patients hospitalized for heart failure.
