Are the UAI dentist and 5th year undergraduate students trained to deal with a medical emergency situation in daily practice?

Abstract

Introduction: Medical emergencies are sporadic situations that can occur in the health profession: in the case of dentistry, they are generally not predictable, but they can put the life of the patient at risk, therefore, they require attention. immediate. (3). These emergency events can be carried out for reasons, natural, diseases or a combination of both, such as situations of syncope, hyperventilation, asthma, epilepsy, anaphylactic shock, airway obstruction airways, hypotension, hypertension, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, cardio-respiratory arrest. The objective of the investigation was to determine if the dentists received from the UAI and 5th year students of the undergraduate degree are trained to solve a medical emergency in daily practice. Methodology: Non-experimental, descriptive, observational, prospective study, quantitative study at the Universidad Abierta Interamericana in the Dentistry Career, theoretical methods were used: analysis and deduction, to support the investigation. A survey was applied to n°= 57 participants, in the form of a structured questionnaire with closed questions with basic knowledge variables. (5) Results: The very good level of knowledge presents 65%, the good level the 30% and the regular 5%. Conclusion: The capacity of the dentist graduated from the Open University Interamericana and students of said institution, to resolve emergencies. doctors in the office, is very good.
