Abstract

The first issue of Volume 9 of the International Journal of Neurology (1972) was dedicated to the medical treatment of neurological diseases. It opened with editorials in Spanish and English and presented a comprehensive set of clinical and experimental contributions addressing therapeutic advances across major neurological disorders. The issue included reviews on the treatment of headache (Friedman), the use of L-DOPA in Parkinson’s syndrome and its therapeutic modalities (Yanniotis et al.), and modern approaches to the management of cerebrovascular disorders (Klassen). Experimental studies examined pharmacological strategies for periodic disturbances of consciousness in hepatocerebral degeneration (Inose type) using GOBAB (Takahashi, Miyakoshi, and Wada). Further articles discussed the treatment of neuromuscular disorders (Satoyoshi and Kinoshita), and provided detailed clinical observations on infantile flexion spasm (West syndrome) in both typical and atypical forms (Sorel and Rucquoy-Ponsar). The volume concluded with a study on the classification and conditioning treatment of reflex epilepsies (Forster), a tribute to Professor Raymond Garcin, and sections for book reviews and news. This issue reflected the journal’s continued commitment to integrating pharmacological innovation, clinical neurology, and experimental therapeutics in the treatment of neurological diseases.
