Abstract

The first issue of Volume 8 of the International Journal of Neurology (1970) was dedicated to the oculomotor system. It opened with editorials in Spanish and English, presenting a comprehensive set of experimental and clinical studies on the physiology, pathology, and control mechanisms of eye movements. The volume featured an electrophysiological analysis of oculomotor mechanisms (Monnier), and reviewed recent clinical and experimental findings on vestibular and oculomotor interactions (Kornhuber and Fredrickson). Other contributions examined optokinetic nystagmus and attention (Ter Braak and Buis), as well as the role of optic pathways in regulating different forms of nystagmus (Bergmann and Costin). Additional papers included electromyographic studies of the extrinsic ocular muscles (Passouant et al.), and investigations into the relationship between electromyographic activity and visual perception (Serra). A clinical report on recurrent ocular paralysis (Garcin and Manigand) provided valuable insights into neuro-ophthalmologic syndromes. The issue concluded with sections on personality, book reviews, and news, offering a multidisciplinary overview that bridged neurophysiology, ophthalmology, and clinical neurology in the study of eye movement control.
