Unlearning in University Education, Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development

This study analyzed the implementation of digital transformation in university education, with an emphasis on the use of emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), in relation to sustainable development. The main objective was to examine how the digitalization of learning processes contributes to building relevant and competitive human capital to meet the demands of the 21st century and the requirements of regional sustainable development. The research followed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, applying the analytical–synthetic method. The sample included 28 university teachers, from which seven typical cases were selected, allowing an in-depth exploration of values, experiences, and meanings linked to the category of unlearning, understood as the need to dismantle rigid structures to promote critical and creative learning. The findings show that the integration of emerging technologies enhances motivation for learning, supports ethical commitment, and facilitates pedagogical innovation, although some resistance to change and to the use of GenAI in hybrid environments still remains. In conclusion, digital transformation in universities goes beyond technology: it represents both a pedagogical and an economic phenomenon that fosters equity, strengthens educational quality, and positions the university as a key agent of sustainable development
