Abstract

Bibliometric sciences allow for the quantitative analysis of scientific production through statistical and mathematical indicators. This study characterized scientific productivity in neurosurgery in Cuban student journals between January 2019 and December 2023. A descriptive, cross-sectional bibliometric study was conducted, analyzing 23 articles using absolute frequency, percentage relative frequency, and the Price index. The results showed that 2020 was the year with the highest production (n=9, 39.13%). Most articles were original research papers (n=14, 60.86%), and Universidad Médica Pinareña published the highest number (n=8, 34.78%). Articles with two or three authors predominated (n=7, 30.43%). Male authors prevailed both overall (n=43, 59.72%) and as first authors (n=14, 60.86%). The University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos had the highest institutional affiliation (n=9, 12.50%). In conclusion, student scientific production in neurosurgery was limited. Original articles, male authorship prevalence, and a high level of reference updating stood out. The journal Universidad Médica Pinareña and the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos were the most representative in terms of publications and affiliations, respectively.
