Social Capital and Empowerment: Social Work Strategies in Rural Communities

Abstract

In rural communities, facing challenges such as poverty, inequality, and limited access to basic services requires strategies that promote empowerment and improve the quality of life. Community social work, relying on the intrinsic ability of communities to overcome their problems with the right tools, emerges as a key method for inducing positive changes. This article aimed to examine how community social work can empower these communities, enhancing their development and well-being. To this end, a study was developed with a qualitative approach, using systematic review as the main methodological resource. The results reveal that empowerment strategies, strengthening support networks, and fostering social capital are fundamental to achieving more resilient and self-sufficient rural communities. It is concluded that community social work plays an essential role in promoting social justice and well-being, proving to be a powerful tool for the empowerment of rural communities, allowing them to transcend their challenges and significantly improve their quality of life.
