From structural gender violence to the design of public policies in favor of women in Mexico

Based on an understanding of the historical conditions in which the discourses of exclusion and inequality that have sustained the patriarchal system and the symbolic constructs that have made women's rights invisible were shaped and legitimized, this article presents an account of the most significant public policies and government actions in favor of women in Mexico. It also includes a series of observations regarding the lack of focused designs in public policies and government programs, which makes them inefficient and ineffective in their implementation for the resolution of problems of violence against women, due to the lack of a comprehensive vision that considers the structural root of violence and the particularized contexts, inequality continues to be perpetuated and the impact of policies created for the benefit of women is limited.
