Abstract

Violence against women is one of the most frequent human rights violations, rooted in unequal social structures and present in all societies. This study aimed to characterize women victims of violence in Pereira, using data from the National Public Health Surveillance System (SIVIGILA). A descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study with multiple correspondence analysis was conducted. A total of 4,121 cases of gender-based violence were examined, of which 1,363 corresponded to women victims. Two profiles were identified, one standing out in which the aggressor was a man, a partner or ex-partner, using mechanisms such as hanging or blunt weapons. The results demonstrate how patriarchal patterns persist that seriously affect women. Furthermore, the underreporting of cases reflects weaknesses in the surveillance system, hindering monitoring and appropriate intervention in these situations of violence
