Epidemiological Characterization of Chikungunya Infection in Pediatric Patients, Pilar 2023

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the distribution of Chikungunya cases in children in the city of Pilar, evaluating the distribution by neighborhoods, age range, and predominant symptoms. Data from case notifications were collected, and descriptive analyses were conducted. The results indicated a heterogeneous distribution of cases across neighborhoods, with a higher concentration in some of them. Furthermore, an equitable distribution by gender was observed, and the age groups of 5 to 9 years and 10 to 14 years accounted for the majority of confirmed cases. The most common symptoms among confirmed cases were fever, myalgia, and arthralgia, while other symptoms were less frequent. These findings are consistent with previous research and highlight the importance of epidemiological surveillance and the implementation of prevention and control measures to address Chikungunya in the Pilar region. Further studies are suggested for a more comprehensive understanding of the disease's epidemiology.
