Behavioral Sciences: Why Should Their Basis Be Rethinked In The 21ST Century?

Abstract

Since Kuhn, it has been known that the development of science is characterized by periods of work based on a paradigm called normal science. However, with time, this paradigm shakes from its foundations with discoveries that undermine the theoretical, epistemological, and methodological body of the different sciences. This article aims to argue that, since the last century, some of the paradigms on which behavioral sciences that are based have been shaken by changes in philosophy, scientific research, and the inherent change in the human worldview due to said intellectual progress. The main hypothesis of this paper is that behavioral sciences must evolve in its methodology, and epistemology since Humanity, due to advances in current science and philosophy, is experiencing a paradigm shift in its worldview about its place in the world and the place in the animal kingdom with which it shares the planet. For this, four common key paradigms of this science are analyzed. The main methodology used in this research was the literature review using the hermeneutic method.
