Abstract

This essay analyzes the role of the Church of Quibdó in peacebuilding from an intercultural perspective, in the socially and culturally diverse context of the department of Chocó, Colombia. It argues that, beyond its religious function, the Church has acted as a key social actor in reconciliation processes, accompaniment of communities affected by armed conflict, and strengthening of the community fabric. Through critical reading, it examines its contributions in contexts marked by structural violence and exclusion, as well as its efforts to promote dialogue between cultures, the recognition of ancestral knowledge, and peace education. The essay also identifies internal and external tensions that challenge the sustainability and coherence of its work, such as the risk of paternalistic practices, the lack of full inclusion of women and youth, and the limits of its institutional capacity. It concludes that the experience of the Church of Quibdó offers valuable lessons for thinking of peace not as an abstract ideal, but as a situated, relational, and deeply human process that requires openness, listening, and commitment to diversity.
