Quality of Work Life Practices and Work Engagement in the Nepalese Banking Sector

This study analyzes the impact of quality of work life on work engagement in the Nepalese banking sector. The dimensions of quality of work life, such as adequate and fair compensation, safe and healthy working conditions, immediate opportunity to use and develop human capacities, opportunity for continued growth and security, social integration in the work organization, constitutionalism in the work organization, work and total life space, and social relevance of work life were taken as independent variables, and work engagement was taken as the dependent variable. This study selected 384 employees of Nepalese national banks using multistage and systematic random sampling. A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to analyze the data. The study revealed that adequate compensation, safe working conditions, and opportunities for capacity development negatively impact work engagement, while growth opportunities, social integration, organizational constitutionalism, work life balance, and the social relevance of work positively influence the work engagement of employees in Nepalese banks. The findings of the study are applicable to policymakers and bank executives of the Nepalese banking sector in formulating policies and programs related to the dimensions of work life for the sound work engagement of employees.
