Urban poverty, access to basic services and public policies: a case study of the marginal suburbs of guayaquil, Ecuador

Abstract

Working paper on urban area poverty and essential services in marginal suburbs (slums) of Guayaquil, Ecuador - describes social implications of rural migration, obstacles to adequate housing and health services, and development of illegal squatter human settlements with no access to water supply, electricity, waste disposal or primary health care; stresses need for state aid to improve living conditions.
