Avoiding double marginalisation in agro-food chains

Abstract

Cet article propose un modèle de relations verticales dans de nombreux secteurs agro-industriels pour lesquels il existe des différences de qualité sur le marché final. Les intermédiaires justifient leur position par un accès exclusif à un segment qualitatif élevé sur le marché, alors que les producteurs se limitent à une faible qualité. Le modèle prend en compte la diversité du goût des consommateurs et la possibilité d'un surcoût de commercialisation pour l'accès direct au marché par le producteur. Les auteurs démontrent le fait que, lorsque le producteur peut s'engager à l'avance à fournir la totalité disponible, alors le secteur intégré verticalement peut retrouver son efficacité (niveau de production et affectation à des segments qualitatifs).
