Quand les PME du Sud s'internationalisent : faut-il revisiter le modèle d'Uppsala ?

Abstract

Malgré la multiplication des échanges et l'internationalisation des marchés d'une part, et les nombreux travaux développés ces dernières années sur l'internationalisation des PME d'autre part, nous observons un fort déficit de développements et de connaissances sur les PME non situées dans la Triade. Ces entreprises sont pourtant nombreuses dans tous les pays du monde, et participent dans les pays émergents au développement des économies. Ces constats conduisent à considérer le processus d'internationalisation des PME de pays en développement comme devant être évalué de façon contextualisée. En nous appuyant sur les spécificités de gestion des PME, sur le modèle d'Uppsala (2009) et celui de Ghemawat (2001), nous avons étudié le cas d'une PME marocaine se développant vers l'Europe et d'autres pays d'Afrique et du Moyen Orient. Nous montrons que le modèle d'Uppsala, s'il reste pertinent, mérite d'être enrichi quant à son approche des réseaux comme appui et fer de lance de l'internationalisation pour mieux appréhender la réalité d'entreprises optant pour des échanges Sud Sud, dans le cadre d'une mondialisation très ouverte. Tant sur le plan théorique que sur le plan managérial, ces travaux ouvrent des pistes de recherche sur des terrains trop peu cernés.
