Los profesionales colombianos en el Siglo XXI. ¿Más estudian, más ganan?

Abstract

Este trabajo documenta la caída de la rentabilidad de la educación universitaria de pregrado en Colombia en los primeros anos del siglo XXI. En contraste, durante el mismo período de tiempo, los estudios de postgrado siguieron ofreciendo retornos crecientes, consolidando una tendencia observada desde mediados de los anos 90. El exceso de oferta sobre la demanda de profesionales, la baja calidad de la educación impartida a nivel de pregrado y unos factores de carácter impositivo se perfilan como las probables causas de este comportamiento divergente de los retornos a la educación de pre y posgrado y de la disminución de los diferenciales salariales entre trabajadores calificados y no calificados. El trabajo reporta también una actualización a 2007 de un anterior estudio del Observatorio del Mercado de Trabajo y la Seguridad Social sobre el posicionamiento laboral de los graduados de las diferentes carreras académicas a los pocos anos de haber salido del sistema educativo.
