Abstract

La represión de la oferta de drogas ilícitas es analizada en un contexto de equilibrio general. Los riesgos de la actividad productora de drogas son explícitamente considerados y las drogas son pensadas como bienes básicos. El modelo estático arroja que la represión de la oferta de drogas amplifica la oferta incrementando su rentabilidad. Adicionalmente, en un contexto de economía abierta la mayor demanda del mercado mundial induce una mayor especialización del país productor de drogas. Finalmente, una versión dinámica del modelo arroja que la represión de la oferta de drogas disminuye la tasa de crecimiento económico tanto en el corto como en el largo plazo. Por consiguiente, estos modelos predicen que la represión de la oferta de drogas ilícitas no es sólo inútil sino también contraproducente.
