This paper aims at contributing to the debate on economic aspects of criminality in Belo Horizonte. This study presents a theoretical and empirical review on the subject and also investigates on the information about the occupation of victims and indicted individuals in order to verify whether the crimes are caused by specific situation related to their work position and if the employment rate and the wage rate of this occupations in the last years have contributed to make the work environment more or less safe. Therefore, we have used the data from the files of Delegacia de Homicídios da Polícia Civil (Police Homicide Department) and the microdata from PME (Month Employment Survey).
