Abstract

This paper demonstrates that the Shorrocks (Econometrica 63:225–1230, 1995) modification of the Sen (Econometrica 44:219–231, 1976) poverty index drops out as a particular case of the Chakravarty (Canadian Journal of Economics 16:74–85, 1983) general ethical index of poverty.
