Wirtschaftspolitische Aspekte des Glasfaserausbaus in Österreich

Abstract

Bisherige Produktivitätssteigerungen, die durch breitbändige Innovationen ermöglicht wurden, sind eindeutig belegt. Die im internationalen Vergleich nur durchschnittliche Verfügbarkeit von Breitbandinfrastruktur in Österreich lässt auf Wachstumspotential schließen. Insbesondere Glasfaserleitungen sind kaum verfügbar. Diese ermöglichen ein Vielfaches der derzeitigen Übertragungsgeschwindigkeiten und stellen einen Technologiesprung dar, der derzeit vollzogen wird. Vor diesem Hintergrund diskutiert diese Arbeit etwaigen wirtschaftspolitischen Handlungsbedarf zur Erhöhung der Verfügbarkeit von Breitbandnetzen, die letztlich die Steigerung der Beiträge von Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien zum Wirtschaftswachstum bewirken soll. Wirtschaftspolitische Empfehlungen, wie etwa die Umsetzung einer orchestrierten Strategie in Österreich, schließen die Arbeit.
