Zur Wachstumsschwäche und erhöhten Inflation in Österreich

Abstract

Die Wachstumsschwäche der heimischen Volkswirtschaft seit der Euro-Raum-Krise ist nicht auf einen Verlust an preislicher Wettbewerbsfähigkeit zurückzuführen. Wie die Analyse des real-effektiven Wechselkurses, der Lohnstückkosten und des Inflationsdifferentials gegenüber Deutschland und dem Durchschnitt des Euro-Raumes zeigt, veränderte sich die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit seit 2012 nicht maßgeblich. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen unterdurchschnittlichem Wachstum und überdurchschnittlicher Inflation erwächst vielmehr aus der Belastung der Realeinkommen durch die rasche Zunahme von Arbeitskräfteangebot und Arbeitslosigkeit und der daraus resultierenden Schwächung der Inlandsnachfrage. Der Inflationsabstand zu Deutschland und dem Euro-Raum wiederum wird vor allem von der florierenden Tourismusnachfrage und den damit einhergehenden Preissteigerungen verursacht.
