Österreichs Wirtschaft im Rückstand?

Abstract

Nachdem das Wirtschaftswachstum in Österreich im Durchschnitt der letzten 20 Jahre über jenem von Deutschland und über dem Durchschnitt des Euro-Raumes lag, zeigt sich seit 2014 ein deutlicher Rückstand. Das seit einigen Jahren niedrige Wirtschaftswachstum und die Stagnation der Industrieproduktion weisen auf Strukturschwächen hin, die eine rasche wirtschaftspolitische Reaktion erfordern. Sie treten jedoch nicht durch einen Vergleich mit dem Ausland zutage: Ein Vergleich zwischen Österreich, Deutschland und dem Euro-Raum hinsichtlich der Entwicklung der Industrieproduktion, der Lohnstückkosten in der Industrie, der Arbeitsmarktperformance und der Inflation lässt keinen Rückstand Österreichs erkennen. In Deutschland sorgt eine konsumgetriebene Sonderkonjunktur für eine stärkere Dynamik, die aber kaum auf Österreich ausstrahlt. Zusätzlich treibt die späte Konjunkturerholung der Länder an der EU-Peripherie seit kurzem das Wachstum im Durchschnitt des Euro-Raumes an.
