Abstract

This study was set to determine the Allocative efficiency of resources used in the production of maize as well as the factors that influence its output in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State. Evidence from the regression analysis indicated that farm size, quantity of maize seeds, quantity of fertilizer used, capital outlay, hired and family labour inputs significantly influence maize output in the area. The comparison of MVPs against MFCs of the resources showed that they were under-utilized and therefore not efficiently allocated in the production of maize in the area. In view of this, it was suggested as recommendation that farmers should cultivate the habit of using improved varieties of maize seeds and proper application of the available fertilizer to improve yield thus, sustaining small – scale (traditional) agriculture in playing its vital role in food security in Nigeria.
