Capital humano e ingreso laboral en Ecuador: un enfoque regional utilizando variables instrumentales

Abstract

El objetivo del presente estudio es examinar el efecto del capital humano en el salario utilizando datos de la Encuesta de Condiciones de Vida (ECV). Con el fin de corregir la endogeneidad entre el capital humano y los salarios, utilizamos regresiones con variables instrumentales, donde el instrumento del capital humano de los trabajadores es la escolaridad de los padres. Además aplicamos un enfoque regional para capturar la heterogeneidad territorial entre las provincias del país. Los resultados encontrados muestran que las regiones más pobres del país son aquellos cuyas provincias tienen menores niveles de capital humano y viceversa. Para capturar otras dotaciones de la fuerza laboral, incluimos un conjunto de variables de control tales como la etnia, el sexo y el área geográfica. Una implicación de política económica basada en este estudio se fundamenta en la inversión y control de calidad de educación aumentarían los ingresos de los trabajadores, lo cual permite reducir la pobreza y la desigualdad del país.
