Abstract

[eng] Salaries in 1985 - Since 1983, salary négociation conditions have changed. Raises no longer bring about systematic gains in buying power. Workers' hourly wage, however, increased more rapidly than did prices between december 1984 and december 1985, due to a sudden slowing of the increase of prices at the year's end. 1985 was also marked by a pause in the increase of social costs. . From 1 981 to 1 985, where the total number of salaried employees in the private and semi- public sectors were concerned, the buying power of the average salary dropped 1 ,8 %, calculated on the constant structure of the labor force by category. But promotions took place, serving sometimes to circumvent the limitation of raises, given that employers granted regradings instead of mere raises. Moreover, industrial restructuring provoked significant drops in the number of the members of the labor force in the least skilled categories. Because of these shifts, the buying power of the net average salary increased by 1,2% between 1980 and 1985. . During this same period, salary increases were significant at the bottom of the hierarchy. But, they were also significant, it would seem, at the other end.
