Abstract

[eng] The main purpose of this article is to provide a breakdown of the gross assets of fiscal households in France in the year 1975. This breakdown is primarily based on the INSEE surveys on the declared incomes of 1975, and it makes it possible to show that the concentration of assets seems to be far greater than the concentration of incomes, as the wealthiest 10 % of households own some 57 % of the gross assets held by private individuals. - The composition of assets varies with its volume : large fortunes are primarily composed of stock and profit-yielding real estate, while smaller holdings consist mainly of liquidities and a primary residence. Profit-yielding assets characterize the non-active' population and high- level executives in the private sector, as opposed to the primarily house-related assets of the other categories of salaried labor and the professional capital prevalent among the self-employed. Large assets do not necessarily imply a high income and, inversely,' there are households having a high income but low assets. The facts show that the relationship between assets and income is a complex one.
