Diferencial de desempenho de alunos das escolas militares: o caso das escolas públicas do Ceará [Performance differential of students in military schools: The case of public schools in Ceará]

Abstract

O diferencial de desempenho entre estudantes de escolas militares e civis não pode ser atribuído somente ao efeito escola, uma vez que fatores como características familiares, acúmulo de conhecimento e o próprio processo de seleção estabelecido por escolas militares podem gerar um viés na performance. Este trabalho investiga se ainda persiste um efeito escola militar em modelos empíricos de proficiência a la Hanushek (2016), uma vez que esses fatores são controlados. Utilizou-se uma base de dados administrativos longitudinal para escolas públicas do Ceará, acompanhando alunos no 5º e no 9º ano, os quais foram selecionados pelo método de pareamento CEM (Coarsened Exact Matching) com relação ao desempenho no ano base. Verificou-se que a falta de controle para o viés de seleção e para desempenhos passados majora o efeito escola militar em uma vez e meia nos modelos tradicionais. Entretanto, mesmo controlando esses fatores, o efeito escola militar ainda é significante.
