Turismo Médico: Revisión sistematizada de la literatura y evidencia

Abstract

Este trabajo realiza una revisión sistematizada de la literatura sobre turismo médico con el fin de conocer sus principales características y contribuir a la evidencia cuantitativa en el ámbito internacional. El concepto turismo médico carece de una definición consensuada y las cuestiones de volumen e impacto son discutidas por la literatura de forma principalmente narrativa y teórica. Se realiza un análisis de las metodologías aplicadas en la literatura y se toma el modelo de Loh (2013) para analizar las tendencias mundiales del turismo médico. Se utilizaron las series de viajes personales relacionados con la salud del Fondo Monetario Internacional para 2008-2017, incorporando efectos fijos y variables de control al modelo de regresión lineal. No se halla evidencia concluyente de una tendencia creciente del turismo médico. Los países de mayores ingresos son los que más comercian estas actividades. Casi todas las regiones superan a América Latina y Caribe en volumen de turismo médico.
