Abstract

This research addresses the issue of competitiveness in Mexican agriculture. The research analyzes problems that represents a challenge in different levels of production, mainly for the small producer who operates individually or through agrifood production communities. This research focuses on wheat farmers in the Baja California Mexicali Valley in Mexico. The purpose of this research is to analyze the different options for financing that are available in the field of Mexican agriculture. The requirements that must be met to obtain credit, the cost of interest and characteristics of the different sources of financing are described. The research presented is quantitative in nature. The sampling consisted of taking into account the voluntary participation of wheat producers in the 2008 / 2009 cycle. The findings of this research showed the importance of financial resources to achieve a greater and better production, with the consequent improvement in competitiveness, both domestic and abroad.
