Hybrid opportunistic maintenance policy for serial-parallel multi-station manufacturing systems with spare part overlap

Abstract

This paper studies the joint optimization of spare part and maintenance scheduling for Serial-Parallel Multi-station Manufacturing Systems (SPMMS), where the overlap of spare part connections is especially investigated. In the SPMMS, the spare parts in inventory are shared by multiple stations during the maintenances. That leads to the spare part connection among multiple stations. Furthermore, one station may demand multiple types of spare parts, and these spare parts are respectively shared with other stations. A multi-layer hypergraph is introduced to describe the multiple types of connections within the SPMMS. Moreover, a hybrid Opportunistic Maintenance (OM) policy is proposed to incorporate the connections into the maintenance scheduling. Based on the above multi-layer hypergraph, a hierarchical optimization method is further developed to jointly optimize the spare part and maintenance policies. The numerical examples and comparisons show that the hybrid OM policy is more cost-effective than the compound-node OM policy, the time-window-based OM policy and the influence-based OM policy. It is also observed that different connections jointly affect the cost effectiveness of the OM policy.
