Retornos de la educación en el municipio de Tumaco: Un estudio de corte transversal ano 2012

Abstract

La rentabilidad de la educación, en términos de ingresos, es un tema que ha sido ampliamente estudiado por la academia, pues se asume que existe una relación directa entre el número de anos de estudio y el ingreso, aparte de reconocer que la educación es un factor que contribuye a la movilidad social, laboral y política, entre otras, de las personas. Tanto a nivel internacional como nacional se han publicado numerosos escritos sobre el tema. Sin embargo, a nivel regional la literatura es escasa, razón por la cual, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo, por una parte, contrastar el cumplimiento de esta hipótesis para el municipio de Tumaco (Narino) y, por otra, establecer si la educación brinda mayores oportunidades de empleo para los habitantes de esta localidad. Para ello, con datos de 220 individuos y de 348 hogares, tomados en el ano de 2012 y, aplicando el modelo de Mincer, se pudo establecer que un ano adicional de educación aumenta aproximadamente en 6,74% el ingreso de los tumaquenos. Igualmente, que más anos de educación no incrementan la probabilidad de encontrar empleo en el municipio de Tumaco.
