Abstract

The German economy is looking ahead to a turbulent 2021. A historic slump in economic output in the second quarter was followed by an equally unprecedented recovery in the third quarter. The renewed lockdown in November and, in a more severe form, in December, which hit the retail sector and many service providers particularly hard, put an end to this recovery for the time being.
