Developing a methodological framework for capturing regional disparities in social development

Abstract

This paper attempts to develop a methodological framework for capturing regional disparities in social development by adopting the methods suggested by McMeekin et al. (2020). A set of six conditions and their adjoining cases were developed that determined the methodology. A new methodological framework was formulated as an interconnected network of conditions, cases, tools, methods and other aspects. This framework was pilot tested in Kerala, India, to explore the regional inequalities in housing infrastructure and living conditions. Comparison of results with the index of deprivation revealed the importance of adopting multivariate methods and lower areal units of analysis to produce better results. El objetivo de este artículo es desarrollar un marco metodológico para captar las disparidades regionales en el desarrollo social adoptando los métodos sugeridos por McMeekin et al. (2020). Se desarrolló un conjunto de seis condiciones y sus casos adyacentes que determinaron la metodología. Se formuló un nuevo marco metodológico en forma de red interconectada de condiciones, casos, herramientas, métodos y otros aspectos. Este marco se probó de forma piloto en Kerala (India) para explorar las desigualdades regionales en la infraestructura de la vivienda y las condiciones de vida. La comparación de los resultados con el índice de privación puso de manifiesto la importancia de adoptar métodos multivariantes y unidades menores de análisis de área para obtener mejores resultados. 本稿では、McMeekinら(2020)が提案した方法を用いて、社会開発における地域格差を捉えるための方法論的フレームワークの開発を試みる。方法論を決定する、六つの条件と各々に関連する事例のセットを開発した。新しい方法論的フレームワークは、条件、事例、ツール、方法、その他の側面が相互接続にされたネットワークとして考案された。このフレームワークを、インドのケーララ州における住宅インフラと生活条件における地域的な不平等を調査で使用し、パイロットテストを行った。結果を剥奪指数と比較した結果から、より良い結果を得るためには、多変量法とより小さい面積の分析単位を採用することの重要性が明らかになった。
