Abstract

Public health is the most important component of human capital of any country, of its human capacity. The health of the population determines the success of economic and social development of the country at present and in the future, determines demographic trends and many other aspects of social life. Understanding the health factors of the adult population is key to designing an effective public health policy. The main focus of this work is to study the influence of a person's starting opportunities on his health in adulthood. In this case, starting opportunities are understood as the conditions in which that person was born and grew up. The paper presents the results of a review of modern Russian and foreign literature on the inequality of opportunities in the health of the adult population. The study analyzes and classifies the main theoretical and empirical approaches to determining the contribution of inequality of opportunities to inequality in the health of the adult population. The results of the study provide the basis for developing a methodology for econometric assessment of the contribution of inequality of opportunity to inequality in the health of the adult population of the Russian Federation. An additional result of the work is the formation of a database of results of a quantitative assessment of inequality of opportunities in health, which can be used for comparative analysis.
