Regional and Demographic Determinants of Poverty in Brazil

Abstract

We apply different decomposition techniques to assess the role of demographic and geographical variables in explaining income inequality in Brazil, following Ravallion and Wodon (1999). Since we have a larger number of observations, we were able to estimate regressions for each state, improving on the results of both studies.
