Abstract

How to get out of blocking situations of social actors, at individual and institutional levels (State, unions, enterprises, wage-earners)? The decline of unions in France can be explained by the fact that they are still linked to the Fordist model. In a context of union re-composition, labour flexibility imposes an adaptation through new rights, “transitional rights”, for wage earners and those receiving non-earned incomes. The aim for unions is to obtain a “critical size” enough to be able to act for new collective action and to be recognized in negotiating organizations. The level of action has also changed, taking account of institutional changes and economic and social constraints: between local and global, it takes place in an open environment.
