Abstract

Paper considers the human life in modern settlements and the problems caused by its rapid developing urbanization. Attention was made on economical, medicinal, psychological, ecological and other aspects of deterioration of human life and on ecological houses, as one of the suitable projects for the solution of the settlements problems and for human life and sustainable development of society. Basic principles for such settlements development were formed on the Conference for environment and development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, that in Agenda 21 defined economical, technical and especially ecological requirements, inter alia the basic principles of sustainable development of human settlements. Solution of such multiple and diverse problems it is necessary to change the concept of human settlements development, especially the concept of cities development. The paper gives the eco-house definition, explores its basic characteristics: energy-effectiveness, effectiveness of water consumption, radical shortening of the wastewater quantity etc. Also it was pointed out, that the low-rise houses can easier to be adapted to environment, not cause its degradation. Understandably, in spite to common basic principles, eco-houses would be different, according to geographical environment, in them they would be build.
