Abstract

Des Etudes Anterieures Expliquent L'essor et la Chute des Etats Par des Facteurs Aleatoires Specifiques a Chaque Etat Ou Par Cycle de Vie Auquel Tout Etat Finit Par Succomber. Toutefois, Aucune de Ces Deux Approches Ne Permet D'expliquer la Regularite de Phenomenes Tels la Tendance Vers des Unites Politiques Plus Petites Pendant le Premier Millenaire Ou L'evolution Dans L'autre Sens au Cours des Six Derniers Siecles. Ici Il Est Suggere Que de Tels Changements Sont Dus a des Innovations Dans les Technologies Informationnelle et Militaire Qui Modifient les Couts de Generer des Recompenses et D'imposer des Punitions.
