Réflexions sur la production des espaces transfrontaliers

Abstract

L’objet de cet article est d'exposer une réflexion théorique sur la production de l'espace transfrontalier afin de saisir sa complexité et d'en analyser sa structure. Un cadre conceptuel a été élaboré pour appréhender cette question. Il révèle d’une part que les facteurs contextuels prennent part à la production de l'espace transfrontalier, car ils influencent les dynamiques territoriales au sein de cet espace. D'autre part, deux processus interviennent : le bordering met en évidence la relation paradoxale entre les approches (géo)politique et sociétale de la frontière ; tandis que l'intégration transfrontalière apparaît comme le moteur de la production de l'espace transfrontalier. Dans l’optique de mieux comprendre les caractéristiques et le fonctionnement de ce dernier processus, le concept a été déconstruit, mettant en lumière quatre dimensions (structurelle, fonctionnelle, institutionnelle et idéelle). La dernière partie consiste à appliquer la grille d'analyse de la production de l'espace transfrontalier à l’exemple de la métropole transfrontalière de Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai.
