La situation économique de la Flandre et le mouvement flamand

Abstract

Au milieu du XIXe siècle l'industrialisation est aussi poussée en région flamande qu'en Wallonie. Pendant la décénnie 1840-50, tout change. La crise de l'industrie linière frappe les deux Flandres tandis que la Wallonie connaît un take-off exceptionnel. A la fin du siècle, la Wallonie est un "Dragon du nord" aussi industrialisé que l'Angleterre. Puis petit à petit l'économie wallonne, axée sur les industries-phares de la première révolution industrielle, décline tandis qu'en début de XXe siècle la région flamande redresse la tête. En 1937, l'emploi industriel flamand dépasse pour la première fois depuis un siècle celui de la Wallonie. Le véritable take-off de la Flandre coïncide avec les "Golden sixties". Les investissements étrangers s'y concentrent épaulés par une revendication flamande, qui, de culturelle et linguistique, est devenue socio-économique. Sur le plan de la sécurité sociale, sur le plan fiscal, sur le plan de l'organisation du marché du travail l'aile marchande du mouvement flamand s'oriente vers une autonomie de plus en plus approfondie.
