Abstract

Les auteurs utilisent la théorie des cartels pour analyser l'influence d'un label sur les marchés agricoles. Un modèle d'antisélection où les consommateurs sont parfaitement informés sur la qualité des produits est utilisé pour étudier l'effet de ce cartel. L'absence du cartel conduit à des innefficacités de marché résultant de l'information asymétrique. Les auteurs montrent que si le coût de certification est élevé, un cartel qui fournit de l'information sur la qualité des produits peut augmenter le bien être social même si les producteurs s'entendent pour réduire les quantités.
