A pesticide ban in the context of intensive cropping technology. The case of the French crop sector

Abstract

La mise en évidence des effets externes négatifs des pesticides sur l'environnement, voire la santé humaine, plaide en faveur d'une diminution de l'utilisation de ces intrants. L'objectif de cet article est d'évaluer les effets d'une forte restriction de l'utilisation des pesticides sur le secteur agricole. En particulier, on montre que ces effets peuvent être importants en raison de la forte dépendance des systèmes de production actuels vis-à-vis de la lutte chimique contre les ennemis des cultures. Cette étude utilise une approche économétrique et intègre les effets liés à l'attitude des agriculteurs par rapport au risque.
