Crecimiento, empleo y distribución de ingresos en América Latina

Abstract

En este estudio se revisan algunos aspectos de distribución relacionados con el mercado laboral en América Latina. El mercado de trabajo tiene una elevada importancia para la desigualdad agregada ya que alrededor de un 80% de los ingresos de los hogares corresponde a ingresos laborales. El documento sostiene que la generación de empleo productivo es una condición necesaria para reducir la elevada desigualdad en la región, con base en ingresos crecientes y de manera sostenida. Sin embargo, no es una condición suficiente ya que una serie de factores individuales, como la desigualdad respecto a los activos de la población en edad de trabajar, entre ellos los estudios, las habilidades, la experiencia y los conocimientos de la fuerza de trabajo, y otros factores contextuales, como la elevada heterogeneidad estructural en la región, inciden en el acceso desigual a estos empleos y en la distribución de sus frutos.
