Abstract

This paper surveys recent developments in macroeconomic literature of real business cycle models brought about by the introduction of several aspects of government activities. Using a prototypical model of real business cycles with government, we identify the propagation mecanisms of fiscal policy and underline the intuition of the results regarding the nature and duration of changes in government spendings or in proportional tax rates. In particular, we discuss the existence of multiplier effects even without Keynesian motives and the issues related to the endogenous determination of fiscal policy.
