Evolución geográfica del homicidio en Colombia

Abstract

Aunque en Colombia la tasa de homicidio ha mostrado una tendencia decreciente en los últimos años, esta sigue siendo significativamente alta como resultado de la alta incidencia del delito en algunas regiones colombianas. En este estudio se analiza la evolución de la estructura geográfica del delito de homicidio entre 2003 y 2010. Esto se hace mediante un análisis espacial de la tasa de homicidio municipal, empleando tres enfoques: el primero mira la distribución geográfica de la tasa de homicidio municipal; el segundo establece que dicha distribución no es aleatoria; el tercero identifica formalmente las zonas violentas y pac´ificas del pa´is. Los resultados indican que en Colombia hay una tendencia persistente a la aglomeraci´on de municipios pac´ificos y violentos. Los patrones hallados sugieren que las disputas asociadas al control territorial de áreas estratégicas para la producci´on y tr´afico de narc´oticos constituye uno de los factores que desencadena la violencia y determina su alcance. Espec´ificamente, la con- fluencia de grupos irregulares en dichas zonas genera enfrentamientos que incrementan los niveles de violencia.
