Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to investigate the dynamics of entry and exit from the farming sector across the EU, based on a review of the literature and recent policy and statistical documents. First, it summarizes the main data available on this topic. Second, it illustrates the determinants of entry and exit, including policy, as well as the relationships between entry and exit. Finally, the chapter highlights the current policy setting in the EU concerning measures directly addressing exit/entry issues. The concluding section outlines future policy design issues and needs.
